Water Parameters
Maintain consistent reef-safe levels:
- Temperature: 75–80°F (24–27°C)
- Salinity: 1.023–1.025
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Alkalinity: 8–12 dKH
- Calcium: 400–450 ppm
- Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
- Nitrates: <10> - Phosphates: <0> Stable water chemistry is essential for healthy polyp extension and coloration.
Lighting & Flow
- Lighting: Moderate to high intensity (100–150 PAR). LED or T5 lighting works well. Neon coloration intensifies under actinic or blue spectrum lighting.
- Water Flow: Moderate, indirect flow. Avoid strong direct currents that can damage the fleshy polyps.
Placement
- Location: Place in the mid to lower regions of the tank.
- Spacing: Keep 10–15 cm from other corals. Branch hammer corals have sweeper tentacles that can sting nearby species.
Feeding
- Photosynthetic: Contains zooxanthellae, so it gets energy from light.
- Supplemental Feeding: Boosts growth and coloration. Feed 1–2 times per week with:
- Mysis shrimp
- Brine shrimp
- Reef roids or coral-specific foods
- Method: Target feeding is most effective.
